When I first walked through the gates of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), I felt both excitement and uncertainty. Like many freshers, I carried with me big dreams and hidden fears. Looking back now, my journey has been a mix of beautiful highs, tough lows, and eye-opening lessons that continue to shape who I am becoming.
The Good
One of the greatest gifts UPSA has given me is friendship. Along the way, I have made friends who quickly grew into something more—family. In the midst of lectures, late-night study sessions, and campus activities, I found people who have stood by me in joy and in stress.
UPSA has also offered me opportunities I never imagined. Sitting in class and listening to prominent people—like celebrated radio presenter Kwesi Asempa—share real-life experiences was inspiring. To have such figures not just speak to us, but actually lecture us, felt like a privilege. Those moments reminded me that the walls of UPSA hold more than just academic knowledge—they hold doors into the real world.
The Bad
But of course, the journey hasn’t been without storms. I have faced academic challenges that nearly broke me. Courses like Social Psychology and Business French pushed me to my limits. Sometimes, no matter how hard I tried, the results didn’t reflect my effort. And it hurt.
There were days when the weight of it all led to mental breakdowns. Sleepless nights, constant pressure, and the fear of failure tested my strength. But in those hard times, I began to understand resilience. I learned that setbacks don’t define me—they shape me.
The Lessons
These experiences—both good and bad—have changed my outlook on life. I now see university not just as a place to earn a degree, but as a training ground for character. UPSA has taught me that success isn’t just about grades. It’s also about endurance, growth, and building connections that last a lifetime.
Looking ahead, I intend to adopt strategies that will make me stronger: better time management, reaching out for help when I need it, and practicing balance between academics, social life, and self-care.
My UPSA journey is far from over, but if there’s one thing I know for sure, it’s this: every experience—whether good, bad, or ugly—is shaping me into the person I am meant to be.
